Wendell — East Wake finished its regular season with a pair of solid wins.

Taking on Wake Christian Academy Friday night in what coach DeLane Hayes called a messy, rainy game, the Warriors pulled through, but not without a fight.

"The ball was sliding and bouncing all over the place and the players were having problems staying on their feet," Hayes said. "We ended up winning 5-3, but it wasn't very pretty."

In a weather-related reschedule from Oct. 6, East Wake faced a final conference game Monday on senior night. The Warriors breezed by the bulldogs, 9-1.

"Everyone got a lot of playing time and we really played lights out soccer," Hayes said. "Hopefully this win will propel us into the state playoffs with some momentum."

Playoffs are set to begin either Tuesday or Thursday of next week. The Warriors should host games at the high school.
